Jeans: Flatter Your Figure

It’s hard, yet really important, to find a pair of jeans that suits you well, make you look great, and make you feel comfortable. As Style Magazine once stated, “For jeans to fit right, they must both hug you and let you go-in all the right places”. Trust me, there is a way to find the perfect jeans for you. I think this is really important because jeans are one of the most typical things you wear on your everyday life. Wouldn’t it be great to have a pair or two that makes you look amazing and though still, feel comfortable?

Pay attention and follow all these tips depending on your body shape and I can assure you, you will find the perfect ones for you that flatter your figure.

Curvy: Try to look for jeans that are stretch and straight or flared legs. Avoid low-cut and skinny jeans. Remember that dark washes make you look skinnier.

Short Waist/Long Legs: Low-rise jeans with long hem length suit you. Avoid high-waist styles and remember that skinny jeans with long and loose tops will camouflage your waist.

Long Waist/Short Legs: Dark washes with a slight flare and stretch suit you the best! Avoid hip-huggers, cropped cuts and anything overly baggy. Here’s a tip: Wear jeans with a cropped jacket to shorten the torso.

Flat Bottom: Stretch jeans with slim legs that hug your bottom and have back-pocket details. Avoid high waists, stiff denim, loose cuts, and classic straight-leg shapes. Heels will give you a real lift!

Short: Look for jeans with natural waist and classic styles. Try not to use wide-leg jeans and low rises. Wear jeans slightly long, and use heels. Also, darker washes give you an elongating look.

Because jeans are an essential part of the closet and they go with everything, with the right details and characteristics, you can make the most of them. At least I adore all my jeans and they are one of the things I most treasure from my wardrobe. I really hope you can find the perfect ones for you!

Easy Steps for French Manicure

Who said you have to go to a salon to get the desired and perfect nails? I’m the type of girl who loves having her nails done. But what better way to do it yourself and even save some money!

French Manicures look understated and classy, follow these steps in order to give yourself this classic manicure. Don’t be afraid to try it, it is actually pretty easy.

  1. First off, wipe off any other nail polish you previously had with nail polish remover. Was your hands afterwards and if possible, do it with warm water.
  2. Push back your cuticle from every nail with an orangewood stick or a cuticle pusher. Do this gently so that you won’t hurt yourself.
  3. Once the cuticle has been pushed back, cut your nails evenly and give them shape. I recommend a squared shape however round is also nice.
  4. With white nail polish, apply a line (you decide the thickness) of white in the tip of each nail. If you want, apply a second coat so that it looks more opaque.
  5. Allow white polish to dry. You can put your fingers by a fan to speed the process.
  6. Once the tips have dried, apply a coat of nude or pink polish over the whole nail. A second coat will be necessary.
  7. Wait for the nail to be completely dry.
  8. Once everything had dried you are almost ready to go. To protect your nails, apply acoat of transparent or clear polish.
  9. If you have time, you can repeat this process in your toe nails in order to match. This looks really cute and classy.

Try it, it is definitely worth it and you will feel proud of yourself if you do it on your own. It looks elegant and beautiful. It would be best if you do it right before any special event or activity in order for your nails to look pretty yet it is always nice to have french manicure.

Go feel pretty and enjoy your perfect-looking nails.

Flatter Your Figure

We all have different body shapes and figures and that is the reason why it everyone can flatter her body in different ways. Once you know what type of figure and characteristics you have, it all becomes easier! Have you ever wondered why some clothes fit certain people better, well there is a reason for it!

Some types of figures are curvy, short, narrow or broad shoulders, full or small bust and having a tummy.

Curvy: You need to focus on showing your waist. Find pieces of clothes that fall smoothly over your curves and avoid anything oversized and anything that ends loosely at the hips.

Tummy: Try creating a vertical line with your clothes. Try using long tops or shirts and avoid anything that is belted either in the waist or hips. It will accentuate your tummy even more!

Bust: If you have a full busts, try using V-necks and simple tops. Avoid puffy sleeves and baggy tops. Yet, if you have a small bust try using fitted tops and jackets and avoid any low-cut tops as well as loose ones.

Shoulders: If you have narrow shoulders try using tips with shoulder detail or with horizontal lines. Avoid raglan sleeves! However, if you have broad shoulders a tip would be using cardigans instead of jackets as well as avoiding shoulder pads.

Short: If you are a short person, you should focus in elongating your legs by wearing vertical lines from top to bottom. Avoid any horizontal prints!

Accentuating your physical appearance and characteristics is essential to making you look at your best! All you have to do is follow the previous tips and then, without even trying, you will know what clothes suit you best!

Buying the Right Bag

Handbags are an important element of an outfit. Just like accessories, they stand out from the outfit and make it even better. With the years, the love and passion for handbags (of all kinds) has grown drastically. But the question is, how do I buy the right bag for me?

Because there are so many kinds of bags women and girls tend to have difficult in finding the right for them. However, the perfect bag should be comfortable to carry, keep you organized and make you look sharp. There are several questions you should ask yourself whenever you go shopping for a bag. I guarantee that this will help you choose the best one there is for you. The questions are the following:

How does it look?

It has happened a million times to me, but it’s important to know that not because it looks incredible on the shelf or the manikin it will look incredible to you too. Try it on as if it were a piece of clothing and look at yourself in the mirror. Does it fit you well? Is it in proportion to your figure and size? If you are a short and skinny person, huge bags make you look smaller yet if you are a tall and big person, small bags make you look even bigger.

How does it feel?

Finding a bag that is comfortable is crucial. Walk around with it around the store and see if it sits perfectly in your arm. Is it light enough or is it too heavy? Are the straps the right size?

Will the bag keep me organized?

How do you like to organize your stuff in bags? Do you like interior and exterior pockets? Well then, look for them. Bags are not just meant to bring out your outfit, but are mostly meant to store things. Pockets, interior or exterior, really help with organization because it will keep your wallet, phone, lipstick, hand cream or anything else in its place. It is not a good idea to have all of her stuff thrown in there with no organization. It is convenient to have it all in its place because when your phone rings and you know where you placed it, it will save tons of time!

Will I be able to use it almost everywhere?

Finding a bag that is wearable to a party, gathering in the park, the movies, supermarket and other activities is something you should think about. Why would you want to spend your money in something that will only be used six times a year? It is nice to “take advantage” of your bag and use it almost everywhere. This way, you won’t have to buy many different handbags; one or two bags will do it all! Find a handbag that matches many outfits that you have. If you have many black tops, then look for a black one, and so on.

Christmas season is here so if you are planning on buying a bag remember to keep this tips in mind. Trust me, it is important that you feel 100% confident about your bag and not just buy it because it looks beautiful on top of the shelf.

25 Ways to Wear a Scarf

This weekend I realized I was running low on scarves. I usually don’t use them much because where I used to live (Mexico) the weather was mostly hot and whenever it got chilly outside a jacket would cover it all up! However, Boston is a different story. In order to feel good, you have to have a good body temperature too. This is why it is crucial to be covered up in the winter. If you are not, you will LITERALLY suffer through the day. So, back to my point, this weekend I got so cold during the nights. A coat/jacket was not enough so I decided to wear a scarf. Turns out that when I was choosing what scarf to wear, though the options were nearly 2 to 3, I realized I had almost none and I needed to get more for the winter.

Shopping online is something I literally love, and while looking for scarves online, I had a better idea. I wanted to know if with just using one scarf during the whole winter season I could make it look different every time I wore it. I found this video o YouTube which is very cool and really interesting to watch. This video answered all of my questions. Turns out, my idea was logical and it is in fact a great way to save money while applying different looks with your scarf each time you use it.

Hope you enjoyed the video and remember, this doesn’t apply only to scarves. There are tons of clothes and outfits you can wear and repeat a lot and by just changing a tiny bit of how you wore the previous time, it will look different and you will look fabulous! Try practicing all of the different techniques with your favorite scarf and decide which one you like the most. Many of them look simple yet they are so hard to do! I still wonder how is it even possible to wear a scarf in 25 different ways! It is kind of crazy!

Tips for healthier skin

Ever since I was little, my mom always used to tell me how taking care of my skin was really important. I really never understood why it was so important after she told me how the skin not only protected us from the heat and the cold but it keeps you looking good. If you treat it well, you will look good and you will feel good. This is why we should always nurture and take very good care of our biggest organ in the body! Yes, skin is the largest organ in the body, isn’t that a cool fact!

So many factors contribute to having a good, healthy skin. One of the most important things to note is that having a healthy skin not only means treating it well with creams and exfoliants, but there are also some things to avoid. The sun is a huge NO NO for your skin. Even though it provides some vitamins for the skin, excessive exposure to the sun damages you in so many ways. So to protects yourself from all of the harmful UV rays from the sun, be sure to never leave your home without SPF 15 or 30 daily.

Trust me, it sounds like a burden but as my grandmother tells me: If someone had told me that wearing sunblock everyday would actually bring benefits to my skin at this age, I would’ve totally done it. Some other good things that you can do to your skin are:

  • Have a healthy diet. Healthy food contributes to having a healthy glow!
  • Wash your face twice a day with warm water.
  • Do NOT pop pimples. It is tempting, I know, but because we are no experts, popping pimples by ourselves can actually result in more redness and scarring.
  • Remove your make-up before you go to sleep!
  • Put a night cream or lotion that will moisturize your skin overnight.
  • Keep your hair clean and out of your face. This will prevent additional oil from clogging your pores.
  • Avoid touching your face with your fingers because it can spread bacteria that causes pores to become irritated.
  • Apply face masks once or twice a week!
  • Here are some more tips..
Because skin is super sensitive and important, make sure to follow all of the previously stated. With this weather, the skin can get really dry and more sensible than ever! Trust me, you will feel 10 times better following all of these and you will feel so good too! Remember, if you feel good in the inside you will look better! Having a healthy skin makes you feel better so go for it and try all of these tips!
“Your skin is the fingerprint of what is going on inside your body, and all skin conditions, from psoriasis to acne to aging, are the manifestations of your body’s internal needs, including its nutritional needs.”

Pick the perfect FALL COAT

Even though it is still fall.. after this weekend I believe it feels more like winter! It was incredibly cold outside and it even snowed! Yeah, in October! In my hometown, I don’t even get snow in December so this was kind of shocking!

With the fall/winter season here, it is time to find your perfect fall coat. As I mentioned in last week’s post, ponchos and capes are “IN” this season, but a coat is a must-have! And picking the perfect coat to carry through fall and winter is a serious matter. Some aspects to focus on are to pick a coat that is:

  • Warm
  • Stylish
  • Easy to wear
However, it is also important for you to pick and buy a coat that is school/work/party/chill friendly as well as comfortable. It is nice to wear a pair of jeans or even a dress and have the coat match and fit perfectly. However, the fashion market has plenty of choices for you to pick, making it even harder! Having so many choices and options can be a little too much. If you don’t already have a coat, posted below are some pictures of four of the different types of coats and looking at them, you can get a better idea as to what you want for this year. I personally have always liked toggle coats but this fall and winter I am planning on going with the neutral fashion!

FALL’S best trends

You might be wondering why did I include in my about page that I was going to talk about internal and external beauty in my blog and I haven’t written anything about fashion, clothes, etc. Well there is a huge reason for that! However, for this post I’ve finally decided to focus on what I like to call “external beauty”. The major reason why I focused on internal beauty before was to make you understand that without finding and having internal beauty, you will never achieve or get external beauty! No matter how well you dress! So never ever ever forget that! Soooo.. now that I’m done explaining, let’s hit the real point. Though we are already on the last weeks of October, fall season is still here! And as I like to say, fall brings a lot of change. We can see it in the trees and the color of the leaves, but also in clothes! Let’s take a look into what is “IN” this season of FALL 2011.

According to NORDSTROM and Teen Vogue, sources that I trust A LOT, some of fall’s 10 best trends include

  1. Capes and Ponchos
  2. Jackets
  3. Stacked Heels
  4. White Knits
  5. The Skinny
  6. Bold color mixes
  7. Prints
  8. Leather
  9. Fur clothing
  10. Sheer maxi dresses

Gotta love what’s in this season! At least I do! One of my favorite things that are considered “in” are the capes and ponchos. Because it’s too hot in the summer and spring, and too cold in the winter, fall is the perfect season for capes and ponchos. Why not take advantage of the season and use them a lot! Last weekend I bought a poncho and a cape and I absolutely adored them! I will be using them a lot, I think that out of all the list of what’s in, those two are the most important ones to consider! I bet they will be helpful not just for the weather but for you! If you chose the right one, you will look absolutely stunning (taking into account how you are going to be also letting your inner beauty sparkle) and beautiful!

One more trend that I really want to touch on is fur clothing. Elegant yet classy. What is there more to ask. All of the last fashion and runway shows have shown an abundant amount of fur. Why? They give you class and it’s the perfect outfit/trend to spice up the season! I really hope this list worked and remember, it’s still not too late to dress up with this year’s fall trends.

“No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face.”

Colors make a statement about YOU

Take a peak into your closet. What is the color that brings up your attention? Which color stares back at you? When I did this, I noticed I have tons of blue and red shirts in my closet. Now the question is, does it mean anything? Studies have shown that you subconsciously pick your colors in clothes based on personality traits and your mood. It’s amazing how colors can say so much about you and you don’t even realize! Of course, we have colors that we think suit us best and that make us look prettier. Try making a connection between the color you have the most in your clothes and what each color represents and symbolizes and comment on back to see if it was right. Here are some of the colors and their symbols.

Red: This color is very powerful and women who wear it normally tend to seek attention. Many people who have outgoing personalities and are really self-confident tend to use it.

Yellow: It is associated with energy and creativity. It is a really bright color however, it can also be overwhelming. People who wear yellow are normally not afraid to stand out from the crowd and people who are really cheery.

Purple: It represents luxury and sophistication. Women who are really unique tend to wear many purple.

Pink: Such a sweet color! Women who tend to wear it are those who are really romantic and sensible.

Blue: It is associated with the sky and the sea therefore, it is a very calming and serene color. Studies have shown that people who wear a lot of blue are looked upon as loyal because blue is a trusting and calming color.

Green: This color is associated with nature. Women who are calm and tranquil usually wear green.

White: One word to describe it would be pure. Women who wear white, such as brides, are often innocent and clean.

Black: This may sound ironic but black is a color that suits almost every one of us. Though you may associate it with funerals, it is actually associated with respect, authority, confidence and elegance. Wearing black also makes us look slimmer.

If someday you don’t like how you look, try changing up your mood and go for a color that shows your personality best. It will give you confidence and it will make you look and feel better. Think about what you would like others to perceive about you. For example, if you want to show authority, wear black. Because personality is really important and it is associated with clothing after all, wear what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful. It will most likely portray who you are and what you want to say and it will most definitely give you confidence over yourself.
